The Wyoming Horsemanship Academy specializes in the development of horsemanship skills of all ages and skill level.

Fall 2021 Semester students

Our programs are designed to teach the foundations of safety and animal welfare so that students have the knowledge to continue with their horse endeavors wherever they might take them. Lessons are tailored to meet the goals and interests of each student, which creates a comfortable, hands-on atmosphere for all.

Students learn about all aspects of horse handling including both saddle work and ground work. Lessons do not just encompass ride time. Students are responsible for learning how to catch, groom, tacking up, and more. The goal of lessons are to increase horse handling confidence and independency. Just like we enjoy a well-rounded horse, we also enjoy a well-rounded student! Please visit out

Semester Horsemanship Courses

Our semester long horsemanship courses are approximately three months long and follow our season; Spring, Summer, Fall, and Winter. These courses provide consistency and stability for students to learn a high quantity of skills while maintaining quality of learning.

Typically students sign up for a weekly/hourly spot within each semester course. We have options for both private and group lessons based on availability and skill level as well as options to ride in lessons multiple days a week and option to ride for over an hour.

Lessons occur in the arena and in our indoor classroom, weather permitting.

Safety first!

For the safety of the horse and rider, we do have weight limits that our horses can carry. The industry standard indicates that most horses can carry safely 20% of their body weight – which includes the rider and the saddle. This means that a typical 1100 pound horse can carry about 220 pounds.  The typical western saddle weighs about 35 pounds. This leaves about 185 pounds for the rider. Thank you for understanding the limits of a horse’s back.

It is encouraged to wear a pair of riding/hiking book and a helmet while handling horses. For those under 18, a guardian/parent will be responsible for deciding whether or not to provide a helmet. Those of legal age may decide for themselves. I believe it is up to the decision of the parent/guardian to make these decisions. Footwear and helmets are not provided by the HCA.

Showing up late for your lesson cuts into your time, so it’s suggested you show up 10-15 mins early to get settled in and ready for the lesson.
